Movies in Egypt

We don’t get every single movie that comes out in the States but we do get most of the major box office hits. However, when we get them is a crap shoot. It could be months later after the release date in the States or only a few weeks and sometimes on the very rare occasion within the same week for some major releases. For instance, we got Avatar the same week it was released in the States and without the long lines and impossible to get tickets. (Yes, we’ve already seen Avatar, and in 3-D! In Egypt!)

All movies play at the same time of 1:00pm, 4:00pm, 7:00pm, 10:00pm and 1:00am. When you buy your tickets you pick your reserved seats. We love this. The ticket price varies by the vicinity of your seat. However, the ticket prices are still incredibly cheap, only 25 LE or the equivalent of $4.60 USD. We don't have to take out a loan to by movie theater popcorn and soda either. One feature that we don’t care for is the intermission in every single show. They always seem to stop the movie right in the middle of the most critical scene. There is some censoring but what they censor doesn’t ever seem to be consistent.
